Simply contact your nearest Volvo retailer using the retailer locator and they'll guide you through the entire process.  There are a few steps you will need to take care of when ordering your Volvo at the dealership: You will fill out an order form, a Swedish Application for temporary registration, and a Power of Attorney form You will need to submit a $2,000 deposit.You will need to provide a photocopy of your Passport, and your Driver's License. In about 15 working days after this, Volvo will send an order confirmation package, which includes the Order Confirmation for your car order. The Confirmation will also show your order number and scheduled delivery date, as well as instructions for organizing travel through our Travel Department, and information on your specified delivery point. You have 15 days from the date you receive your Order Confirmation Package to finalize your travel booking, and up to six months from the date of your vehicle delivery in Europe to complete your vacation. Final Payment is due at the Retailer 30 days before delivery (pick up.) Make sure you bring the final payment receipt or contract copy obtained from your Volvo retailer when taking delivery of your car in Europe. Proof of payment is required. Here's what happens on the big day.   Arrival A Volvo driver picks you up at the airport and at your hotel the following morning. Check-in Once at the home of Volvo you are welcomed by our English-speaking staff. You will have time to relax after your long trip, and you can enjoy the exclusive state-of-the-art facilities. The Volvo Overseas Delivery Program (OSD for short) was created over fifty years ago to meet the needs of American travelers to Europe, along with US military and diplomatic personnel who wished to have their new Volvo cars delivered throughout the world, as their individual work or travel plans dictated. The program is also known as Volvo Tourist & Diplomat Sales (TDS), Volvo European Delivery and Volvo Car International Customer Sales (VCICS).

It all began when some people at Volvo became aware of the "love affair" between American diplomats, military personnel and tourists with Scandinavia. Goteborg, Sweden was home to an unknown carmaker and the company's attractive P120 (Amazon) model was proving a popular Swedish "souvenir" among foreign visitors.

The year was 1956 and Volvo was the first among its competitors to discover that it could sell cars profitably to international customers.

However, the company first had to solve the relevant customs clearance, tax and registration issues:

"The cars had to be driven to Norway or Denmark for registration, then back to Sweden for shipment," recalls Torben Eckardt, CEO of the VCIC (Since then, the business has expanded at an increasing rate, with sales growing by 5-10 percent annually in recent years.

The Volvo XC90, is the model that has had perhaps the greatest impact on sales. However, the redesigned flagship S80 sedan, the compact C30 and the new XC60 (the safest Volvo ever) have generated even more traffic to the VCIC offices adjoining the Torslanda plant in Goteborg.

"We have completed 50 years and we are hoping that the next 50 will be equally successful," says Torben Eckardt.


1927 saw the birth of the first Volvo.
